蒸(むし) Mushi(Ramier)
蒸(むし)は、イラクサ科の多年草のカラムシです。苧麻(まお)ともいいます。８月～９月頃に淡い黄色花が咲きます。茎は硬く、蒸してから皮を剥いで、繊維を取って織物にしたそうです。
- Mushi is a ramie which is a perennial plant of the Urticaceae family. It produces pale yellow flowers in August-September. The stalks are hard, and after steaming, the skin is peeled off and the fibers are taken out to make textiles.
