織女之 袖續三更之 五更者 河瀬之鶴者 不鳴友吉

織女(たなばた)の 袖(そで)継(つ)ぐ宵(よひ)の 暁(あかとき)は 川瀬(かはせ)の鶴(たづ)は 鳴かずともよし

- Tanabata no Sode tsugu yohi no Akatoki ha Kahase no tazu ha Nakazu tomo yoshi.

意味 Meaning

織女(しょくじょ)が牽牛(けんぎゅう)と袖を重ねた夜の明け方は、川瀬にいる鶴は夜明けを告げて鳴かなくてもよいのに。

・二人が一緒にいられる時間を邪魔しないで、という気持ちですね。

- As dawn breaks on the night the Weaver Maiden and the Herdsman shared a close embrace, the cranes in the river shallows need not cry out to herald the morning. (This poem expresses the sentiment of not wanting anything to disturb the time the two of them can spend together.)

・この歌を含む１５４４番歌の題詞に「湯原王(ゆはらのおおきみ)の七夕(たなばた)の歌二首」とあります。湯原王は志貴皇子(しきのみこ)の息子さんです。
