堅香子(かたかご) Katakago(Dogtooth violet)
堅香子(かたかご)は、カタクリと言われています。ユリ科のコバイモという説もあるそうですが、ここでは、カタクリとして説明しますね。片栗(かたくり)はユリ科の多年草です。山林の中に生える小さな(高さ、１５センチほど)花です。３月～４月にかけて、紫がかったピンクの花びらの可憐な花を咲かせます。片栗粉の材料として有名ですが、今ではほとんどの片栗粉はジャガイモの澱粉(デンプン)から作られます。

Katakuri is a perennial plant of the lily family. It is a small (height, about 15 cm) flower that grows in the forest. From March to April, the pretty flowers of purplish pink petals come in bloom. Katakuri was famous as a material for starch, most starch is now made from potato starch.
