李(すもも) Sumomo(Plum)
バラ科サクラ属の落葉小高木です。４月頃、桃の花より少し小さめの白い花を咲かせます。中国原産で、日本にはかなり古くに渡ってきたそうです。桃の実に似ていますが、味はすっぱいので「すもも」と呼ばれるようになったそうです。
- Sumomo is a deciduous tree of the genus Prunus in the family Rosaceae. It produces white flowers that are slightly smaller than peach blossoms in April. It is native to China and was introduced to Japan quite a long time ago. The fruit resembles a peach, but it has a sour taste("Suppai" in Japanese), which is why it came to be called "Sumomo".
