山たづ Yamatazu(Elderberry)
山たづは、スイカズラ科ニワトコ属の落葉低木の接骨木(にわとこ)です。４～５月に枝の先に円錐状に淡い黄色の花をつけ、秋には赤い実をつけます。山で見かけることができますが、最近はなかなか見られないですね。
- "Yamatazu" is an Elderberry which is a deciduous shrub of the genus Sambucus in the Honeysuckle family. It produces pale yellow conical flowers at the tips of the branches from April to May, and red berries in autumn.
山たづを詠んだ歌 Poems including Yamatazu
万葉歌では「山たづ」は「迎(むか)へ」を導く枕詞(まくらことば)として使われています。これは、葉が対生することからという説と、神を迎するための木として使われたからという説があります。
- In Manyo poem, "Yamatazu" is used as Makurakotoba(pillow word) that leads to "Mukae(meet/welcome)". It is thought that the reason for this is that the leaves grow opposite each other, or that this tree was used as a tree to welcome gods.
