さのかたは、実にならずとも、花のみに、咲きて見えこそ、恋のなぐさに

意味

さのかたは、実にならなくても、花だけでも咲いてみせてくださいな。恋のなぐさめに。

「結ばれなくても、せめてお姿を見せて欲しい。」と恋しい女性に贈った歌なのでしょう。

- rough meaning: Sanokata(Akebia quinata, in one theory), even if it doesn't bear fruit, please let the flowers bloom, for the romance of love. (This might be a poem which poet gave to a woman he loved, saying, "I want you to see me at least even if we cannot be together.")
