麦(むぎ) Mugi(Barley/Wheat)

麦は古代から栽培されていたようで、大麦や裸麦が弥生時代の遺跡から(土器などの底に炭化した状態で)発見されています。麦は五穀(ごこく)の一つで昔から重要な作物でした。

- Mugi(Barley/Wheat) seems to have been cultivated since ancient times, and barley and naked barley are found in remains of Yayoi period (in the state where they were carbonized at the bottom of pottery etc.). Mugi is one of the five grains and has always been an important crop. (Yayoi period have begun around 400 BC and lasted until about 300 BC.)

麦(むぎ)を詠んだ歌

万葉集には二首に、いずれも「麦食む駒(こま)」と詠まれています。

3096: 馬柵越しに麦食む駒の罵らゆれど猶し恋しく思ひかねつも

3537: 柵越しに麦食む駒のはつはつに相見し子らしあやに愛しも

3537: (或本に曰く)馬柵越し麦食む駒のはつはつに新肌触れし子ろし愛しも
